Our 20-month joint project with ViFoundation focuses on generating inspiring content on sustainable agriculture practices together with farmers from around the world. Additionally, we are working in Kenya to co-create a pilot of a marketplace for smallholders and to share improved weather information in all of East Africa. We also provide monthly training on sustainable practices.

Agripath is a 5-year 5-country research project funded by the Swiss Agency for Development (SDC) and GIZ, funded through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), led by the Centre of Development and Environment of the University of Bern where WOCAT is hosted.

Consortium partners include Grameen Foundation USA, Grameen Foundation India, the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), as well as farmbetter. The project will test the effectiveness of digital, in-person and hybrid extension service provision across Burkina Faso, Uganda, Tanzania, India and Nepal. The goal of the project is to develop effective, efficient, and far-reaching advisory services that engage as many smallholder families as possible, particularly incorporating women and young people.

AeD-LABs

We are collaborating with SWISSAID in Colombia and Ecuador on a 1.5 year project to use the farmbetter app within their AeD-Labs project. AeD-LABs is a pilot project working to collect and share farmers’ and food systems stakeholders’ agroecological innovations for climate change adaptation. Farmbetter’s technology facilitates this exchange of adaptation solutions, which support farming communities facing related challenges in similar contexts or ecosystems. The farmbetter app matches the unique farmer profile with peer-reviewed sustainable land management practices from the World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies’ global database. Through this project, farmbetter will reach 800 farmers in Colombia and Ecuador with sustainable farming practices, and can disseminate the collected AeD-LABs adaptation solutions to a wider audience.

WoodyWeeds+

Non-native, invasive species are having a significant negative impact on land and species diversity in Kenya. Prosopis is considered the most threatening invasive non-native tree species in East Africa. WoodyWeeds+ is working with the Kenya Government on their delivery of their National Prosopis Strategy, with farmbetter providing best practice on Prosopis management direct to the land users through digital means. WoodyWeeds is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development (SDC).
